Alfred Randolph “Ran” Carrington IV passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026. He was born in Danville, Va., on December 9, 1957, to the late Alfred “Bud” Randolph Carrington III and Faye Marshall Carrington. He was a 1976 graduate of Hickory High School and spent many years of his life driving a truck, teaching truck driving through CCC&TI and as a route supervisor for Anderson Truck Line.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Kelly, and a dear brother-in-law, Mike Dunford. He is survived by his sister, Kent Dunford of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; his daughters, Natasha Haas and husband Chris, and Paige Carrington; grandchildren Emily and Abigail Haas, and Briar Sanders; and nephews Matthew Dunford and wife Anita and Patrick Dunford and wife Rebekkah; and several sweet great nephews and nieces.
Ran was a man who moved through life with a deeply analytical mind. He will be remembered as intelligent, introspective and unapologetically himself — a man who sought understanding in a noisy world, even if he often preferred to navigate it alone. He loved rock and roll music and reading Louis L’amour novels. Visiting Wilson Creek and riding motorcycles were some of his favorite things to do.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Taylorsville House and Medi Home Hospice Services for all the special care, love, and support they showed Ran. A small service will be planned at a later date.
Condolences may be sent to www.adamsfunerals.com.
Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to be serving the family of Alfred Randolph “Ran” Carrington IV.
