Carroll Dean Shumaker, 85, passed away on April 17, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., following a lengthy illness.

Carroll was born on March 13,1941, in Iredell County to Thomas Shumaker and Annie Bell Brown Shumaker. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Wayne Hepler. Surviving are two daughters, Alana Geiger of Statesville and Donna Lanier (Andy) of Statesville; two grandsons, Seth Burleson (Nina) of Hiddenite, N.C., and Luke Lanier of Statesville; and one great granddaughter, Freya Burleson of Hiddenite. He is also survived by all four of his siblings; Mevalyn Harper (Tommy), Edward Shumaker (Helen), Mildred “Millie” Shumaker Howard (Danny), and Sue Hepler.

Carroll grew up in northern Iredell County working the family farm and graduated from Union Grove School. He worked at Southern Screw and J. C. Steele and Sons. He enjoyed gardening and giving the produce away to neighbors and friends. He was also a member of Monticello Baptist Church in Statesville.

A special thank you to his former wife and mother of his children, Dorothy Smith, who moved back in with him to care for him and be there for him as he declined.

Visitation will be at Troutman Funeral Home in Troutman, N.C., on Saturday, May 2, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and a memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home.
