Elizabeth “Libby” Ann Stroud Johnson, 78, passed away on May 23, 2026. Born June 3, 1947, Libby lived a life marked by steady devotion — to her family, her work, her church, and the people who were fortunate enough to be welcomed into her circle. In quiet, lasting ways, she offered the kind of wisdom that doesn’t demand attention, but leaves everything a little steadier and a little better than before.
Libby graduated from Cool Spring High School and later attended Mitchell Community College, where she prepared for her career in Legal Support. She went on to retire from Winthrop & Winthrop Attorneys-at-Law as a Paralegal, bringing to her work the careful judgment and dependable presence that colleagues came to trust. She was also a former member of the Iredell County Legal Secretaries Association.
She was married to Bill R. Johnson, who preceded her in death on August 25, 2004. Libby’s love for her family was constant and unmistakable, and she found deep happiness in time spent with her grandchildren — moments that brought her great joy and filled her days with meaning.
A faithful member of Wayside Baptist Church in Statesville, N.C., Libby was very active in her church and its activities. Her faith was not merely something she spoke of, but something she lived — gently, consistently, and with a heart turned toward others. Among the words she held close was her favorite Bible verse, Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
In her everyday life, Libby enjoyed playing cards with her friends, treasuring the laughter, companionship, and simple pleasure of being together. Whether in a room full of family or among friends around a table, she had a way of making people feel seen and cared for — an intimacy of spirit that will be deeply missed.
Libby was preceded in death by her father, Robert Douglas Stroud; her mother, Mattie Elizabeth Mason Stroud; her husband, Bill R. Johnson; her sister, Mildred Severt; and her brothers, Otho Lee Stroud and Marvin Shaw.
She is survived by her son, Douglas William Moose (Tammy) of Stony Point, N.C.; her grandchildren, Cody William Moose (Reece), Kelsey Lynn Moose, and Kaylee Marie Moose Owens (Trenton); and her great-grandson on the way, Kace Douglas Moose, expected June 10, 2026. She is also survived by her sister, Naomi S. Sloan (Donald).
The family will receive friends at Wayside Baptist Church, located at 212 Shiloh Road in Statesville on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 12 to 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of Wayside Baptist Church with Pastor Kris Carter officiating. A service of committal will take place at Iredell Memorial Gardens, where Libby will be laid to rest.
Pallbearers will be Cody Moose, Trenton Owens, Ron Smith, Brian Ouellette, Larry Sloan, and Hank Childers. Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Ouellette and Charlie Ouellette.
Memorials may be made to Wayside Baptist Church, 212 Shiloh Road, Statesville, NC 28677.
