Ira “Ray” Donaldson, 85, of Mooresville, N.C., will be remembered fondly by family and friends following his passing on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, N.C. Born on July 18, 1940, in Iredell County, he was the cherished son of the late Ervin Quitman Donaldson Sr. and Cora “Rebecca” Gillespie Donaldson.

Ray proudly served in the Vietnam War, dedicating his time to his country as a member of the U.S. Army and later the U.S. Navy Seabees. After serving his country, he returned to civilian life and built a successful career as an HVAC technician, working diligently with Donaldson Heating and Air. His knack for fixing things was matched only by his love for good company, often sharing meals and laughter with friends at local favorites like What-A-Burger.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ervin Quitman Donaldson Jr. and Charles William Donaldson, as well as his sisters, Joyce Winders and Faye Ketchie. He is survived by his loving sisters, Lura Dorton and LaVon “Vonnie” Collins; and cherished nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, who will hold his memory close to their hearts.

A Service of Remembrance with military honors will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 1, with receiving of friends following until 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
