Jean Settle, 92, of the Cool Spring community, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026, while residing in an assisted-living community.
She was born in Cool Spring to the late Custus Howard “Buck” Beaty and Delphia Epps Sherrill Beaty. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Frank Settle; her sister, Virginia B. Moore; her brother, Blaine N. Beaty; and her nephew, John B. Moore.
Jean dedicated her life to God and to the Methodist church, through her work as a director of Christian Education, and as a diaconal minister. Her greatest joy was working with the children in the churches where she served.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sister-in-law, Ann P. Beaty; niece, Mary M. Christenbury; and nephews Thomas H. Beaty (Melody), Ken I. Beaty (Monica), and Chris N. Beaty (Missy). She is also survived by her beloved great nieces, Violet Beaty, Lilli Beaty, Nicole Beaty, Sophie B. and McKinley Beaty.
A celebration of her life service will be held at 12 noon on May 16 at Cool Spring Community Church, 1902 Mocksville Highway, Cleveland, NC 27013. Pastor Darren Custer will officiate. Please plan on joining the family in the church fellowship hall after the service.
Jean loved bright colors. She requested that attendees wear something colorful in her memory.
Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County (hoic.org), or any charitable organization of your choice that focuses on supporting children.
Arrangements for Mrs. Settle are in the care of Troutman Funeral Home.
