Jeffrey “Jeff” Hayes, 64, of Statesville, N.C., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 30, 2026, at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C., following a brief illness. Born on May 23, 1961, in Iredell County, N.C., Jeff lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep love for family and community.
Jeff was a man with a good heart who gave generously to everyone he met. He carried his warmth into every aspect of his life, never meeting a stranger and always ready to lend a helping hand. Before retiring from JC Steele, where he devoted many years of service, Jeff also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. His commitment to service extended into his local community through his 25 years of involvement with the Ebenezer Fire Department, where he was valued not only as a firefighter but also as an EMT and first responder.
Beyond his professional and military achievements, Jeff found joy in simpler pleasures. He loved fishing, farming, and gardening, passions that reflected his connection to nature and life’s quiet moments. His lively farm was home to 150 chickens and two ducks, companions that added to the charm of his everyday life. Jeff was of the Baptist faith.
Jeff’s proudest accomplishment was his family, whom he loved more than anything. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Teresa Williams Hayes, whose partnership was a cornerstone of his life. Together, they shared a loving family that includes two daughters, Kandy Corza and her husband Tino, and Abby Hayes; a son, Michael Hayes; and five grandchildren—Jorge Corza, Alex Garcia, Kandice Corza, Maverick Hayes, and Hudson Hayes—along with two great-grandchildren, Carter Corza and Sebastian Corza. Jeff is also remembered dearly by his brothers Neil Hayes and Billy Hayes, and his sister, Jean Lundy. His best friend, Charlie Salem, stood beside him through many years of friendship and shared experiences.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Rash Hayes; his mother, Shelby Sloan Hayes; and his brother, Eric Hayes. The memory of these loved ones remains deeply embedded in the hearts of those who knew him.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on May 8, 2026, at 4 p.m. in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel located at 135 E. Front Street, Statesville, NC 28677 with Rev. Stephen Pope officiating. Full military rites will be held at the end of the service. The family will visit with family and friends following the service. Family, friends, and all who knew Jeff are invited to gather to remember and honor a man who touched so many lives with his generosity, bravery, and pure-hearted nature.
Jeffrey “Jeff” Hayes will be remembered as a man of service, love, and community whose spirit will continue to inspire.
May he rest in peace.
Nicholson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hayes family.
