Jimmy Franklin Sherrill, 81, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville.
He was born on October 4, 1944, in Mooresville to the late Hoyle and Annie Howard Sherrill. Jim was a Vietnam veteran serving proudly in the U.S. Navy.
Jim was not only a skilled mechanic in the automotive industry, but he also had a deep passion for the outdoors. His love for hunting took him on exciting adventures across various terrains and environments, but his greatest joy came from his unwavering affection for horses, spending countless hours caring for and riding them.
His heart, however, belonged to his family, and he shared a remarkable 59 years of marriage with his beloved wife Geri. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. They had each other from the first day they met and were engaged on the second night.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Sherrill.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Geri Diggs Sherrill; sister, Teresa S. Dellinger; sister-in-law, Debra Sherrill; nephews, Jason Sherrill (Casey), Justin Sherrill (Erin), and Joshua Sherrill (Amy); niece, Ashley Dellinger; great nephews, Cody, Stimey, and Sawyer; and his beloved K-9 buddies, Bailey his poodle and Ranger his chocolate lab, that was by his side for 13 years.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at Rocky Mount Church, Mooresville, with Rev. Ted Smith officiating.
