
Mrs. Lillie Mae Turner Holmes, 85, of 189 Buckhead Road, Harmony, N.C., was born in Iredell County on August 18, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Walter Clifton Turner and Estelle Campbell Turner. She departed this life on Friday, May 8, 2026, at home following an extended illness.
She attended the Iredell County Schools and was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Harmony.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Pete” Holmes; her siblings, Augusta Murdock, Walter Turner, R. J. Turner, Robert L. Turner, Lewis Turner, Richard Turner, Odessa Turner, Pearlie Turner Peet, Mildred Peet, and Ozelle Turner Campbell, Aileen Turner Holmes, and Burly Turner Gaither; and a very special great great niece, Jonique “Nu-Nu” Rivers.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life her only son, Tyde O’Neil Turner of the home; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; her caregivers, Lakeita Knox, Kimbrely Rivers, Jauez Rivers, Loretta Knox and Estele Dalton — her favorite niece who took care of her and Tyde until she couldn’t do it anymore due to her health; her godson, Kenny Gillion; Isaac and Melody Reid and Johnny Dalton.
Graveside Services will be conducted Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Stanley Turner will officiate and Deacon Wesley Davis will eulogize. Burial will follow the graveside services.
