19th Annual Oyster Roast

When: Friday, January 17, 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Where: Trinity Episcopal Church, 801 Henkel Road, Statesville
Details: The 19th Annual Trinity Episcopal Church Oyster Roast will take place in the church Parish Hall. Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door. Tickets include adult beverages, bread, Brunswick stew and oysters. Live music provided by Misty River Band. This year’s proceeds will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity.


Christian Prayer Demonstration

When: Friday, January 17, 5:30 p.m.
Where: Iredell County Hall of Justice, 226 Stockton Street, Statesville
Details: Christian Candle Light Prayer Demonstration being conducted at The Iredell Hall Of Justice. Participants are asked to wear red in remembrance of the blood of Christ.


Mooresville – MLK Celebration

When: Friday, January 17, 6 p.m.
Where: Art Depot, 103 W. Center Avenue, Mooresville
Details: Theme of event is “A Walk Through History.” Keynote speaker is Dr. Yolanda Wilson, an experienced community college administrator, frequent conference presenter, and devoted wife and mother.


Statesville – MLK Celebration

When: Friday, January 17, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Mitchell Community College, 500 W. Broad Street, Statesville
Details: LaToya Caesar will be the keynote speaker at the annual celebratory event hosted by Mitchell Community College in partnership with the College’s Equity and Inclusion Council. Ms. Caesar currently serves as District Liaison for Community Engagement for Iredell Statesville Schools. The event will take place in Shearer Hall and is free and open to the public.


Music with Mike “Capndar” Robinson

When: Friday, January 17, 7 to 10 p.m.
Where: Daveste Vineyards, 155 Lytton Farm Road, Troutman
Details: Mike “Capndar” Robinson returns to Daveste’ Vineyards. Mike delivers entertainment with his acoustic music which includes the style of Jimmy Buffett, CSN, Kenny Chesney, The Beatles and The Grateful Dead. No cover charge. Wine, craft beer and a variety of sodas available for purchase. Seating in the Pavilion is available but fills up fast. Picnic baskets/crockpots are allowed.


Maidens & Matrons Boutique Community Service

When: Saturday, January 18, 8 to 10 a.m.
Where: Freedom Christian Center, 757 Oakridge Farm Highway, Mooresville
Details: Maidens and Matrons Boutique is a branch of Old Mill Ministries that operates out of Freedom Christian Center. The Boutique provides women in need, based on availability, two bras, three or four pair of panties and a variety package of feminine hygiene products. This project will also benefit Old Mill Ministries and participants will help with the community breakfast, sorting clothes, and making hygiene bags. Cemetery Cleanup Project

When: Saturday, January 18, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Where: Green Acres Cemetery, Mooresville
Details: The Town of Mooresville Parks & Recreation invites you to participate in a community cleanup of the cemetery adjacent to Green Acres Cemetery. We will need up to 20 people to help remove litter and clear vegetative debris. All equipment and gloves will be provided by Park Services.


Toys by Terry

When: Saturday, January 18, 10 a.m.
Where: Iredell County Public Library, 201 N. Tradd Street, Statesville
Details: In this free toy making workshop you will learn how to build a toy car, truck, trailer and more in this series of toy building workshops that will leave you with a fleet of toy vehicles. Mr. Terry will have a toy class every 3rd Saturday, through May. Sign up is required each month; space is limited to 12 participants per class. MLK Youth Talent Expo

When: Saturday, January 18, 11 a.m.
Where: Statesville High School, Mac Gray Auditorium, 474 N. Center Street, Statesville
Details: Event features creative writing, art, spoken word, poetry, stepping, dancing, singing and cross-culture activities. This an open mic event and there is no admission charge.


SPD January Community Meeting

When: Saturday, January 18, 1 to 3 p.m.
Where: Front Street Baptist Church,1403 W. Front Street, Statesville
Details: Statesville Police Department is hosting monthly community meetings every third Saturday. The informal meetings begins at 1 p.m. at different locations in the city. The meeting is scheduled for a two-hour block; however, if the discussion has concluded and all citizens leave, the meeting will end early.


Day of the Diva 2020

When: Saturday, January 18, 2 p.m. 
Where: Statesville Civic Center, 300 S Center St, Statesville
Details: Tickets are $275 for a table of eight, includes admission, dinner and wine. Model entries are $60 for six models. Doors open at 2 p.m. Showtime is at 4 p.m. Over 25 cosmetologists, barbers, make-up artists and fashion designers. For more information, call 704-253-2775.


Bach to Broadway Concert

When: Sunday, January 19, 2 p.m.
Where: First Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Meeting Street, Statesville
Details: First Presbyterian Church will present a concert featuring Dr. Oliver “Worth” Worthington II, baritone, and Dr. Johan Botes, pianist and organist. Both will perform selections of art songs ranging from American composers, German songs and songs from South Africa. The concert will end with a set of Broadway songs. A love offering will be collected.


MLK Community Worship Service
