A Statesville area man faces drug charges after Iredell County Sheriff’s Office personnel conducted a raid on the hotel room where he was staying and seized crystal methamphetamine.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Michael Douglas Styers, 40, whose permanent address is off Log Cabin Road in eastern Iredell County, in a news release on Friday.

ICSO narcotics investigators began conducting surveillance operations on Styers in various locations after receiving information that he was possibly distributing crystal methamphetamine in the Statesville area, Campbell said.

After verifying the initial information about the sale of narcotics, investigators conducted undercover purchases of crystal methamphetamine from Styers, according to the news release.

Then on Tuesday, January 21, narcotics investigators conducted a search warrant at a hotel in Statesville, where they located Styers. The suspect was found to be in possession of 48 grams of crystal methamphetamine, which has a street value of approximately $4,000, Campbell said.

Styers was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with six counts of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver crystal methamphetamine, four counts of felony maintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance, and two counts of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule IV controlled substance.

Magistrate Thompson issued Styers a $65,000 bond.

According to the ICSO, Styers’ criminal history includes the following charges: two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, misdemeanor injury to personal property, misdemeanor disorderly conduct, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, DWI Level 3, three counts of misdemeanor assault on a female, misdemeanor disorderly conduct, misdemeanor communicating threats, felony habitual misdemeanor assault, and 14 counts of driving while license revoked.
