The Statesville Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Durham Avenue on Thursday evening.

Officers responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m. in response to a reported shooting and found the victim — identified as Alfred Jermaine Allison — lying on the curb with three gunshot wounds, according to an SPD news release.

The officers immediately began to render aid to Allison while waiting for Iredell County EMS personnel to arrive.

Allison was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for treatment for his injuries. He was listed in critical condition in ICU on Friday morning.

SPD Criminal Investigations Division personnel processed the scene and spoke with potential witnesses, who reported that the suspect, a black male with dreadlocks, had fled the scene in a gold sports utility vehicle.

Witnesses identified the shooter as Freddie Lee Daye III, according to the news release. Police have not determined the motive for the shooting. The two men are cousins.

Daye is an absconder from N.C. Probation & Parole, according to the news release.

Police said the investigation currently ongoing, and charges are pending against Daye at this time.

Anyone who has information on Daye’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
