Friends of a Troutman firefighter are raising money to help cover the funeral expenses for his teenage son.

Dawson Church, the 15-year-old son of Allen and Karen Church, was killed Monday in a four-wheeler accident. He was a sophomore at South Iredell High School, where he recently won the Defensive MVP Award for the JV Football Team. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, hanging with his buddies and going to the river.

“Words cannot express our pain and heartache at this time,” the family said in a Facebook posting.

Family friend Kayla Phillips launched a gofundme campaign to raise money to cover Dawson’s funeral expenses. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $7,000 had been donated. You can donate HERE.

“Please keep Allen, Karen, Leela, and Christine in your thoughts and prayers during this unimaginable time of sorrow,” Phillips wrote.
