Special to Iredell Free News

The second annual Iredell Cheer Classic will be held Friday, January 27, in the South Iredell High School gymnasium. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Cheer teams from Troutman Middle, American Renaissance School, Oakwood IB, North Iredell Middle, Woodland Heights and Lakeshore Middle will compete for countywide bragging rights — and the championship trophy.

“For us coaches, this competition is a way to showcase the true athletic ability of our cheerleaders because cheer is a sport that often goes unnoticed and is under-appreciated,” explained Troutman Middle coach Amber Reep.

The cheerleaders are excited to show off their skills and spirit.

“It’s fun to show the community how dedicated we are to the sport of cheer and how fun and exciting it can be,” TMS student Shamya Lyons said.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be split among the participating schools to support the cheer programs.
