Paul Norman Baker Sr., 87, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.

He was born on July 14, 1932, in Mooresville to the late James and Bertha Vanzant Baker. Mr. Baker was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a pilot and an instructor since 1948 and received The Wright Brothers Master Pilot award from the FAA. He was a member of the RC Wingers. Mr. Baker was a member of Kannapolis Church of God, where he was a member of the orchestra. He was also a member of the Lake Norman orchestra.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Baker and Steve Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn St. Clair Baker; sons, Paul Baker Jr. and wife Rene, Jeffrey Baker and wife Margaret, all of Mooresville; grandchildren, Andrew Baker and wife Sarah, Alex Baker and Megan Baker; sisters-in-law, Kay Caldwell, Betty St. Clair Erwin; and brother-in-law, Larry St. Clair.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, at Kannapolis Church of God with Rev. Greg Sloop officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville.
