John Carroll Patterson, 88, of Mooresville, N.C., and formerly of Fort Valley Ga., peacefully died November 9, 2021, at Northlake House with his loving wife Ellen and brother Earl at his side. He was born August 7, 1933, in Fort Valley, Ga., to the late Ed and Francine Patterson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Francis Mathis and Sara Ferguson; and brothers, Ed Clifford Jr. and David.

From his time growing up in a small town to the Air Force, Georgia Tech and a successful management career with Burlington Industries, he lived to take care of his family and help others.

An avid sailor and tennis player, John’s weekends were full with family and friends enjoying his two passions. These times with Ellen and their boys created lifelong memories. If the weather turned sour, he was always quick to build a roaring fire in the fireplace and the family would spend countless hours enjoying priceless time together.

Most important to him was his family and he will forever be remembered as a loving husband and father.

He leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his survivors, his wife of 58 years, Ellen Rae Chaney; sons, David Patterson and wife Ruth of Niceville, Fla., and Scott Patterson of Greer, S.C.; grandchildren, Mary Jane, Seth, Alex, and Sidney; and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.

A Celebration of life service will be held at Cavin-Cook Heritage House, Plaza Drive, Mooresville on Friday, December 10 at 1 p.m.
