Thomas “Gary” Settlemyer, 85, went to his heavenly home on July 28, 2022, at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville, N.C. He was the son of the late George Pinkney Settlemyer and Virginia Summers Settlemyer.

Gary was born on November 15, 1936, in Mooresville. He graduated from North Mecklenburg High School. Everyone who met Gary loved him, and he never met a stranger. Gary loved going to church, singing in the choir, helped at the Cove Church as a greeter until Covid and helping any way he could. He spent many days sitting on the front porch watching out for old cars and waving to people as they passed by. He was a self-taught musician, playing the piano, guitar, and banjo. He liked to draw and would give pictures to special people for their birthday or just because. Gary loved animals and helped his dad for many years on their dairy farm in Derita. He also worked at the IGA in downtown Mooresville as a bagger. He became involved with SACC, where he participated in their bowling, baseball and karate classes.

He is survived by an aunt, cousins, and many friends. He fought the good fight and will be missed greatly.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Miles officiating. Burial will follow the service at Huntersville First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House, 1325 Mecklenburg Highway, Mooresville, NC 28115.
